A Trip to the Veterinarian

So, as many have told us, yes we are crazy because we are moving to Mexico with our dog and cat (and our kids and stuff, too). We realized we needed to get them updated on their shots (the dog and cat, not the kids-although they might need some updating too) so we made an appointment to go to the Vet.

Our appointment was at 3pm. At about 2:45 we tried to put our cat into his cat carrier. Well he is no dummy and he did NOT want to go in. He puffed up like a blow fish and would not let his body be "shoved" into the carrier. We even tried to bribe him with tuna, but he didn't fall for it. Meanwhile, Vanilla, our dog is running back and forth in the house because she's realized she gets to go on a ride. We gave up on the carrier and found the cat harness. Now I don't know if you've ever tried to "walk" a cat on a leash, but let me tell you, "IT doesn't work!"
Vanilla jumnped into the car, up on the seats, back and forth to the windows, and acted like a little kid about ready to go to a candy store. Rocky, the cat, began to cry the most pathetic, long, sad, and irritating cries you could imagine. For a few seconds we thought we might have to do a cat exorcism right in the van!!! Our 15 minute drive to the vet was pretty hilarious. Of course I'm thinking, oh yeah we are going to drive 3000 miles with these two and all our stuff and teenagers and its going to be so much fun!!!!

Anyway, we made it through the vet visit and back home. Surprisingly Vanilla and Rocky behaved really well with the vet(kids always behave better in front of company). Of course we stopped at Sonic on the way home to reward our good behavior (that is mine, Sandra's, & Juliette's).

Pray for us! We leave in about 18 days. Kelly is trying to pack the house and help the girls with homeschool and do really important things like vet appointments! Eddie is finishing up his real job and then has a list a mile long of stuff he needs to do before we leave for California.
On thing is for sure, God is good and we are blessed because He daily takes us on an adventure with Him. And laughter, well it really does do the heart good like a medicine!

Where do the days go?

Can you believe it? Its almost the end of summer! The last 3 months have gone by so fast it makes my head spin. September is an important and significant month for us. Why you might ask? Well, let's see....September means;

1. Our time in Dallas ends in 1 month

2. We have 4 more Sundays at our awesome church-Trinity

3. Sandra and Juliette begin homeschooling and I'm their teacher!?! (scary)

4. Eddie quits his job (our only financial security in the natural sense!)

5. Kelly has to sort, pack, toss, or give away all our belongings

6. We have to make those belongings fit into a U-haul truck

7. We leave on a 4 week trip where we will drive to California, Nevada, and
Mazatlan, Mexico with our dog Vanilla and our cat, Cat.

8. We are going "home" and get to hang out with our kids and friends in CA

9. Road trip!!!! Let the fun begin!

Yeah September is going to be awesome. The adventure continues!

Its Hot!!

Yes its hot here in Dallas. Today was 107-hot even for Texas standards. We have had a pretty cool summer, despite the rising temperatures.

In June Eddie and Kelly went to Kerrville, TX to attend an orientation with Commission to Every Nation or CTEN. The 3 day orientation was packed full of helpful information, great fellowship, and good food. The Vargases are preparing to serve under the CTEN umbrella with YWAM Mazatlan.

After a few days of being home Eddie boarded a plane and went to Mazatlan for two weeks of training with the Homes of Hope Ministry. HOH is a part of YWAM Mazatlan and its the primary place where Eddie will work. Eddie had fun working with a team from Santa Cruz, CA. They built a house in 3 days. He also had fun hanging out with his son Isaac who serves on staff in Mazatlan.

While Eddie was in MX, Kelly and the girls went to Florida to visit Kelly's sister Trish. They had a great time hanging out with the cousins. The day we went to the beach it was overcast and deserted, but the coastline was mysteriously beauitful.

July was a full month of work and fellowship and support raising. We are amazed at God's goodness in our lives. He continues to love us and confirm His call to us to go to Mexico. We've been blessed by many people who have prayed for us, invested in us financially, and shared encouraging words.

Jon & Abbey's wedding

At the end of February we all traveled home to California for a few days to celebrate the wedding of our son Jonathon to Abigail (Abbey) Glauser. It was a fun, but short trip filled with lots of good times. Eddie, the girls and I flew in on the evening of the 25th from Texas. Isaac also flew in on the same day from Mazatlan, Mexico. Ricky and Tracy came in on the 26th from Green Bay. Grandma Sandy came from Carson City. Trish, Marcia, Simone, and Sophia all came from Orlando and dad came from Tucson. Of course we hung out at the Peake's and got to hear about Stephen's recent adventures with YWAM.

The Vargas family stayed at Jon and Abbey's studio apartment in Pacific Grove. We enjoyed being near the ocean and managed to make it down to the beach a few times. Pacific Grove is amazingly beautiful and Jon and Abbey have a great view from their 3rd floor apartment! (yes I got tons of exercise climbing up and down those stairs!!!)

The wedding was wonderful and happy and filled with lovely moments. We attended a reception at Embassy Suites and danced the night away after we ate a yummy dinner. Abbey's parents, Ted and Alicia, did a great job on the whole affair. It really was a beautiful day. It all ended too quickly. Jon and Abbey went on their honeymoon-a cruise in the caribbean....wow...lucky dogs!
After a quick visit to our home church, FPC, we flew back home to Texas. It was nice to be in Cali even if it was for a few days.

The adventure has begun!!!

Yes its true........the adventure has officially begun. We have been accepted as staff members at the YWAM base in Mazatlan, Mexico and we are beginning our journey on how to get there. Its hard to believe its been almost 5 years since we went to Monterrey, Mexico to attend a discipleship training school. A lot has changed in the last 5 years (not to mention the fact that we are 5 years older!). Check out our blog on Jon and Abbey's wedding and Isaac's adventures in North Africa.
We have enjoyed our last 22 months in Texas. It has been an adventure living in the south. God has blessed us with some awesome friends, a great church family, and some really fun memories-like the tornado alarm going off at 3am and "hanging out" in our walk in closet while we wait for the storm to pass.
So join us as we head south of the border.
